Putting on the Spirit Review and Giveaway

Putting on the Spirit

“Putting On the Spirit” is a wonderful and quick devotion that a busy mom can handle. We moms, have enough on our plate and fitting God in there somewhere is hard. Well Katie Hornor made it easy. 10 simple minutes a day. Surely we can find the time for that right? I know for me, when I rise up in the morning, it is the best time for me. It is on my Kindle, so that makes it very easy to read it while I am waiting for the morning light to come across the sky. Or, while I am waiting for a kid to come out of the shower. Or, I fit it in while I am making breakfast. 10 minutes ladies.

Katie used the KJV, which for ME, that is important due to my personal convictions. It is pretty hard out there to find a devotion using only the KJV. So, this has been right up my alley.
Katie takes us right through the Fruits of the Spirit that brings about Godliness in us moms. Love, Joy, Peace, long-suffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness and lastly, Temprence.
I have been struggling a lot with my faith and struggling with fitting time in for God each day. This devotion has helped me get back into my groove so to speak.
Katie said it very well in her introductions,

I know I should be putting on the Spirit instead of robbing myself in the cape of my own strength, but I just don’t have the time”.

One of my favorite quotes from the Putting on the Spirit devotional is this,

When we choose to maintain a right attitude and to recognize God as the strength giving God of our present circumstances, and when we recognize that he lovingly arranged this circumstance so that he can walk with us through it, that realization brings joy.

It is an answer to a question that was posed in Putting on Joy Day 6,  There is joy in weakness. The question is, How can we find joy in being weak?

Another day that blessed me is day 15, where Katie talks about Goodness. A statement she used was, Being right does not equal being good. Profound huh, it was for me too. Often times, I sit at my computer listening to a conversation on the phone, or I read something on Facebook, or I am in a store and I see these moms that are so patient, so gentle, so into their children. I feel like I am not at all a good mom. I have made a ton of mistakes with raising my children. I have been way too harsh where gentleness needed to be there. Or, because we allowed a certain thing in our home, my children are glued to it. I compare myself to other moms. You do it too I am sure, right? A good mom does not stumble with her children. She does not yell etc. right? Well, we do know those are the lies of Satan.

I won’t go into too many more details as I want you to go and buy her book.
You can find her book, here, on Amazon. After buying her e-book, you can go to her website here, and grab the free workbook that goes along with it. It is a pdf that you can print out to use as you go through the devotional. You can also find the Spanish version here.
A bit about Katie, from her website;

I imagine myself to be the proud owner of a pet elephant who paints, and a librarian of a ginormous library, see the ones that inspire me here!

But in real life, I am daughter by adoption to the King of Heaven and the best friend, traveling and learning companion, and lover to my missionary husband, Hero, since 2003.

I am also mother, cook, story teller, housecleaner, nurse, cuddler and teacher to four wonderful children whom we call TazSirFlower &Butterfly (Read what I love about each of them). AND we have a Baby on the way!

Katie is so super sweet and you can find her at any one or all of these places below:

Psalm 46

This Psalm is my favorite Psalm. My pastor from our old church read this psalm at my mother’s bedside on the day she died, before she died.

It was read at a wonderful mans funeral a few years later while at the same church.

It has been a favorite for another friend of mine.

I can almost recite it.

Psalms 46:1   God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalms 46:2   Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Psalms 46:3   Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

Psalms 46:4   There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

Psalms 46:5   God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

Psalms 46:6   The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

Psalms 46:7   The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Psalms 46:8   Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

Psalms 46:9   He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

Psalms 46:10   Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalms 46:11   The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

All Things

What does All Things mean to you?

We can find this phrase in several verses in the scriptures.  One of the more known and my life verse is

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

It is my life verse because I can do ALL THINGS through Christ.  He does strengthen me. I can tell when I am not walking with the Lord and trying to do the things in my own strength. Because I fail. I fail at whatever it is I try to do, such as loosing weight, cleaning my home, finding a job, training my children. Even the mudane things such as cleaning our homes can be a HUGE thing if we are not doing it in Christ. Put on some good music and go to town. My daughter used to sing as she did dishes, cleaning her room, and even taking a shower. She sang hymns and biblically sound musc. Those sounds are hardly ever heard in our home anymore. Why?

Well, I can only accept my part of the blame and that is because I stopped walking in Christ. I stopped doing ALL THINGS through Him.

The first time we see the phrase ALL THINGS is found in Genesis 9

Genesis 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

Everything moving and living thing, God gave us. He gives us ALL THINGS. The meat we eat, the salad greens we eat, the milk we drink, the cotton used in our clothing, God gave it.  The grass we lay on in the sun, the oceans, the rivers we swim in. He gave it. He gave ALL THINGS to us.

It just amazed me. I forget about Him, and yet, he never forgets me. It brings me to tears.

Psalms 57:2 I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.

David writes us in Psalms 57 that God performs ALL THINGS for us.

Wow, ALL THINGS! Amazing yes?  He sends the rain, the sun, the rainbows, the butterfly dances for me and for you.

When I am driving to and from work, I go through a mountain large hill pass. It amazed me both in the AM and in the PM as I go through it. It is just so beautiful. Even in the brown of winter. Now, the grass is green and the leaves are growing on the tree’s. Flowers are starting to bloom and the red wasps are out. It just thrills me each time. Seriously. Even in the dark, you can generally see the hills in the horizon. Then it comes up quikly and you can see the up close how God made those hills since the road builders blasted through the hills to make the highway. You can see the sediment that the Lord laid down. See HE did that. All Things. Go figure.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Death, birth, hardships, and good things work together. God may not cause the eathquake to fall upon Japan, but He does make it work for him. If someone came to know Him through the bad of the earthquake, then does that not make it a good thing?

Just before Christmas, a church we used to fellowship with, lost a very prominent member. Brother Parfitt was a man of God. He lived and breathed his beliefs. He shared them with his children, his wife, his church, his co-workers, and any stranger he came into contact with the love of God.  His wife is truly a daughter of Him. When she came upon the scene of his accident that morning,  she prayed. Sure she cried. I can not imagine. Sure she could have been crying out to God to save him, yet she also said, if God should take him, then so be it. I badly paraphrased it. Her faith showed through and many many folks were able to see it. It was broadcasted on several radio stations in the area. Even those that would NEVER talk about Christ or faith showed or told her story. I linked it above. You should really take a look at it.

ALL THINGS,

The very last time we see the phrase is in Revelations.

Revelation 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

We, as christians will inherit it all! God is our God and we are his children, and as He dwells in us, we dwell in Him. Every thing God has, is ours when He comes back. He is ours and we are his. Is God not amazing? I am so glad I am saved and a child of His!

You find the phrase ALL THINGS 162 times in the bible. We know that even if God’s word mentions it once, it is important to Him and should be important to us and He wants us to know it. So It think, 162 times mentioned. I think it is very important to God that we KNOW that ALL THINGS is important.

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Beach time

I had over 400 pics to process.

Most of them are blury, I am using too slow of a lens for my crew that moves too fast for me. LOL

I LOVE this shot!  But then, if it is a sunset, I am all there…

Again, see, sunset, me, sunset and me..

We go together like 2 peas in a pod.

Seriously.

Add the girl and her dog to the mix,

Be still my heart…….

I am tellin ya, I am in bliss……

Heaven isn’t too far away…

Closer to it everyday…

Oh wait, thats a song…..

Sorry….

Now, I am in love with baby feet and the beach.

Seriously, who doesn’t?

Does it really really matter, this one is 8?

I mean really?

He, after all, is MY baby….

A great finish to a long, and I mean long day here at the homestead.

You would never had known they were just going to tear each other apart an hour before hand…

Right?

Oh ok

Fine,

I told them to do this….

But, they obeyed!

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
